WELCOME TO THE COACHING EXPERIMENT PODCAST

Once you have got this far, perhaps you’re wondering or you’re curious about this  podcast.
Firstly I am a coach and I created this podcast because I wanted people to have a clear picture of my style of coaching.
The reason is because not everybody is a fit and not everybody will resonate with the way, I coach.
I tend to be rather direct. I tend to go straight for the jugular and ask direct questions.
Some people don’t appreciate that so if you’re the type of person who does not like someone who is outspoken then I’m really not the coach for you.
Having said that I do listen quite closely but I am a coach and not a therapist.
Why did I become a coach?
I’m from Malta but I came to live in the Netherlands because I fell in love.
I moved here to be with the woman that I loved.
Four years into the relationship I found myself on the streets.  At the time it was a huge blow.
However, after I came out of the dark tunnel  and sifted through all the emotions I realised that it was the best thing that ever happened to me.
It woke me up to the realisation that I had given up on myself and my dreams.
As a young adult I had wanted to become a psychologist so I decided to become a coach.
I resolved to put the knowledge and experience I acquired through out my 53 years to good use.
My education was the school of knocks. Life presented me with experiences that helped me to grow and become a richer human being.
As a result the the insights that I have I can share with others.
I can see what other people are going through because of what I experienced myself.

Once you’re here and perhaps you’re considering hiring a coach then I encourage you to watch these conversations.

Watch and see how my guests sometimes see through their thinking and shift.

You might see something for yourself and have an aha moment and if that happens that would be wonderful!

Coaching changed my life.  I had not realised the extent to which I was harming myself emotionally by not embracing myself fully.
I was beating myself up and I was not allowing myself to be exactly who I am.
Then I met a coach who helped me see the truth, helped me see what I was doing to myself. How I was believing a narrative, a story I told myself on a daily basis.
When I stopped believing my story, I started to flourish.  I started to appreciate and embrace all my qualities as well as my perfect imperfection.
If you have difficulties with showing up as you are or with giving yourself permission to be who you are then I’m your woman.
Thank you for watching if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

and CARIN VAN BUUREN

About Carin Van Buuren

Being raised and educated in a time where stepping on a specific life and career path was the way to create stability, success and social acceptance, I always felt like the odd one out. Because every single decision I ever made came from the heart, or my intuition, my gut. The journey I went on led me through a life full of adventure.

Having worked as a veterinarian in the Netherlands, Africa and France, setting up a successful company in business coaching for international companies in Belgium, running a B&B in a castle, wherever I felt I needed to go to fullfill my purpose and find happiness, I went.

Were my decisions always the right ones ? Certainly not. However, they did teach me a lot about becoming resilient, creative and about reinventing myself. These capacities came in quite handy when all came to a standstill at a time when I thought I had finally found stability at the tender age of 50. What I had not realised is that we always take the weather with us, meaning I always brought myself along in all my ventures.

Time to take a step back and tune in. With personal development as a passion of mine for years, I had already become a Master Mindfulness Practitioner. But then Sophrology entered my life. This transformational holistic health method to restore the mind-body connection, based on Western neuroscience and Eastern wisdom, opened the doors to my conscious awareness. Getting in touch with the real me, reconciling with my past, finding the answers to how I want to show up in the world and how I wanted to move forward became my essence. I quit my job and went back to “school”. As a Sophrologist I have found my purpose and my sheer joy. Although curiosity and trying new things was important for my growth, being given these tools to discover my inner power and potential has changed me indefinitely. Experiencing in daily life how these tools are now helping other women to step into their power is more gratifying than anything else I have done before.

Episode One – Re-inventing Myself.

I made the mistake of thinking that I could emulate one of my all-time favourite coaches.

I thought that by using his method I would help my guest have an insight.

What happened was that instead of putting all my attention on my guest, I was caught up in my head.

I was trying to remember what and how he interviewed his own guests instead of remaining loyal to my own way of asking questions and coaching anyone.

The result wasn’t a bad one but I am sure it could have been that much more powerful if my attention was focused on her rather than on how I was going to do a great job.

This was a huge lesson for two reasons, one I cannot make my guest have an insight. Its not up to me, I can only point to what I see.  Whether a person has an insight or not is not up to the coach. That thought alone does all the heavy lifting.

Secondly, to learn to trust and be comfortable with the way I do things, there is no right or wrong way.

There is only your way, remain loyal to that and learn along the way.  If needs be course correct but do it your way.

I invite you to listen to Carin’s story and the many challenges she encountered throughout her life.

She is living proof that resilience is innate and we find that out when we hit rock bottom.

and DENISE PINK

About Denise Pink

I spent years searching for answers to the questions about why my life plays out the way it does.

For example, why did I feel so good some of the time and so stressed other times? Or why was it that sometimes life just felt like such hard work while at other times it just seemed to flow so easily?

I started out in the alternative therapy field in 2003 eventually becoming a qualified Reiki Master and Bio-Energetic Therapist.

After a few years, I realised that somehow our own individual thinking played a huge part in our experience so I trained as an Independent LifeSuccess Consultant and a Holistic Life Coach. I also incorporated Emotional Freedom Technique into my coaching practice with great results.

Then I came across the Abraham-Hicks material which really deepened my understanding of why each of us experiences our life the way we do.

In 2018 I completed my training to become certified as a Certified Clarity Practitioner – the exploring continues!

There is always more to discover about life but what is already clear to me is that the answers to our questions don’t come from outside of us, every one of us has access to the deepest wisdom and, when we are aware of this, the answers can be heard.

Episode Two – What if it’s not true?

This conversation was recorded nearly six months ago and whilst I was editing it,  I realised that I was listening differently.

I heard something that I had already heard before but this time it was more profound.

Denise shed light on the heart of the reason why I started this podcast.

It is to inspire you to allow yourself to step into our light and in doing shine it on others.  The Light includes your darkness because in my mind without it we are incomplete.

She poses some very interesting questions and is also very honest about the challenges she has with giving herself permission to do whatever she wants.

Here are some of the things that occurred to me whilst I was listening:

Is it dangerous just being you?

What is the worst thing that could happen if you were to let go and show up?

Would you enjoy your life more?

Are you second guessing yourself?

If that rings true for you, have you stopped to ask yourself why?

Have you made yourself smaller in terms of the life that you are living?

On another note do you do torment yourself with the following questions:

Who am I to do that?

Do I know enough?

Who cares what I think?

Do you have a crazy idea or an idea that you have labelled as crazy which has love at its core??

What’s stopping you?

Is it the narrative a story you tell yourself repeatedly, day in day out?

Is it a so called belief?

Belief is a thought its not the truth.  Its something you might have picked up from somewhere and you are living up to the idea on a subconscious level.

Something you were told as a child or something you heard from anywhere.

I thoroughly enjoyed having this conversation and even though its a tad long it is filled with golden nuggets.

I invite you to listen and to share it with anyone you think might benefit from listening.

and LUCY PALMER

About Lucy Palmer

Eighteen years ago Lucy asked herself whether she was living the life she really wanted.

The question was prompted as part of grieving the loss of her mum. However, it was fuelled by a deeper feeling that there had to be more to life.

She had a successful career, a beautiful home, wonderful friends and good health. She’d already overcome a difficult marriage, divorce and near bankruptcy.

To family, friends and colleagues, she was happy and had it all. However, the answer to her question was no.

The problem was that she did not know what she wanted. Although she was clear that she didn’t want to work and she wanted a bigger house, it felt impossible to achieve both of those goals.

A year later she had both and had started to explore way beyond her comfort zone.

Six years later having travelled the world, exploring new places and ideas Lucy rediscovered what made her feel alive.

She began to notice that her experience of life was being generated from the way she interprets what’s going on within and around her.

This meant she could be resilient, adaptive and joyful anywhere and could create whatever she was bold enough to ask for.

She decided to create a life, which included work when it excited her alongside her passion for travel, learning and reconnecting to her spiritual nature.

Now she runs a successful Change Management Consultancy and Executive Coaching Business working with the Leaders of Private and Public Sector Companies within Central and Local Government, Financial Services, Housing Associations, NHS and owner led small businesses.

Her breadth of experience Professionally and personally plus her natural curiosity and ability to see a range of perspectives helps open up new possibilities in communication, relationships and business practices.

Lucy loves helping people and businesses resolve what appears to be restricting growth or new opportunities, enabling them to explore what’s currently unknown, unclear or feels impossible, so that they can create the experience of Life and Business they want.

Episode Three: What is your zone of Genius?

I asked Lucy what she hoped to get out of the conversation?

‘I would love to have a simple phrase that trips off my tongue that describes who I am and what I do.’

This conversation might be helpful for those of you who have been struggling to describe what they do in very simple terms.

Lucy mentioned a few things that you can ask yourselves whilst listening to this conversation.

What drives you or motivates you to want to coach people?

What is the part about coaching that brings you joy?

How has coaching impacted your life?

The following is my own take on our need to describe what we do and the resistance many coaches have to niching and marketing.

Why do you resist niching and marketing?

Do you want to serve everybody?

Is it possible that in creating a niche you might ultimately serve many more people?

In my experience it’s not so much about what you do but more about how we can actually help people have peace of mind or a better quality of life.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH WANTING TO CREATE CLIENTS.

1. Not everyone you talk to has to become your client.

2. Clients are created simply because we take a genuine interest in other human beings.

3. If you seek to connect with anyone without having a genuine interest and only to create clients then you are going to fall flat on your face.

4. Seek to create conversations, not as a means to an end but simply to have a meaningful conversation with another human being. Or without being attached to a predetermined outcome.

Disclaimer: the following is absolute rubbish: ‘a client or someone would be willing to create a relationship with me and to connect with me for one reason only, I have a solution to their pain etc. And that is why ultimately people will connect with us.

I have no idea what I was thinking when I said that but whatever the reason was, it’s definitely not the point I was trying to make. People connect with others for varying reasons.

It is certainly not because they are looking for a solution to their problems. People who are looking for a coach are looking for solutions but that is not the only reason they or anyone would be seeking to connect.

I invite you to listen and to share it with anyone you think might benefit from listening.

Episode Four Bi-Polar Squirrel

I love asking questions and I love coaching.

I am nearly always blown away as I hear and watch people have insights during the conversation.

Here are some golden nuggets:  “I’m Debbie but I am multifaceted like we all are.

I think sometimes society almost makes us pick a facet.

If you saw a diamond there’s this facet and this facet and this facet.

And society goes pick one, I can’t, I’m all of them.”

This conversation is for you if you are struggling to reconcile the language that you want to use with what you think people want to hear.

This conversation is for you if you still care about what people think about how you come across on social media or in-person for that matter.

Are you worried about what people think about you?

Or are you innocently and unknowingly judging yourself and hear it being confirmed by the statements positive or negative that people make about you?

Debbie had a mind-blowing insight, as I was listening, she said: I want people to hear my heart.  However, a few moments later she said something that is the most important thing we can do for ourselves.

In my opinion, it is something anyone and everyone needs to hear. Want to know what it is?

I invite you to listen to this conversation which in my opinion is jam-packed with wisdom. If you would love to be a guest, or if you know someone who would be a great guest, please get in touch via email, or send me a personal message.

and NAOMI

About Naomi

I first picked up a film camera in the mid 1990s in high school and loved learning to make black and white prints in the darkroom.

Ever since then, I have loved taking photos, but I didn’t pursue photography until after college.

Instead, I studied accounting, business law, economics and various other subjects in college, trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I “grow up”.

Finally, 10 years after high school, I decided to follow my heart and open up a photography business.

I’d love to say it was easy sailing from there, but it wasn’t.

I moved across continents twice over the last decade and uprooted all my client base and hard work, having to start over.

I’m now one year into my new location and starting to feel “settled” again with new hope for growing my business

Episode Five – Should I follow my passion or play it safe?

At the beginning of this conversation, we were skirting around the real issue of Naomi’s challenge.

Halfway through, she had an insight that helped her see what was holding her back or stopping her from doing what she really loves doing.

Naomi is a prolific and incredibly talented photographer.

I have seen some of her creations and even though I am no expert, I know when something is good.

Even though it’s subjective to the viewer we all recognise expertise when we see it.

Even though Naomi knows and loves her craft, there was a block.

As is typical in many cases it’s a fear of something or other.

Watch as Naomi allows herself to be challenged and to see her blind spot.

What is your blind spot?

What do you love doing?

Are you sharing it with the world?

Are you giving yourself permission to share your gifts with others?

Sharing your talents, your art and your creativity is a gift to the world.

It impacts people in ways that YOU CANNOT imagine.

The Gift is in Your Passion.
